2008 WSOB Championship
The 2008 World Series of Backgammon Championship was won by Frédéric Andrieu, a fashion photographer of France who earned €100.000 in cash. The finalist was Bob Koca of the US who was awarded with a €60.000 prize. Both of them earned a seat at the WSOB final playing at the preceding WSOB Riviera Cup event; Andrieu won the super-satellite, while Koca bested Gus Hansen and championed the Masters Division of the backgammon event.
The World Series of Backgammon Championship was held, for the second season, at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes, France on July 21. The prestigious backgammon championship was a day after the final event of the Riviera Cup, the final stop of this year's WSOB season. The two backgammon events were filmed by World Series of Backgammon Enterprises Limited and will be broadcast across Europe on Eurosport 2.
Some of the 16 players who made it to the WSOB final table competed at the Riviera Cup, while some others were brand new names in the live backgammon world. That because this year's, WSOB Championship allocated 7 seats for live and online backgammon qualifiers who won in special super satellite tournaments held at the Zakynthos Festival of Backgammon in Greece and the backgammon sites Play65 and True Money Games.
2008 WSOB champion, Frédéric Andrieu, was on of these qualifiers who came along way from winning the WSOB Super Satellite at the Riviera Cup to outplaying backgammon giants from the league of 2008 World Backgammon Champion, Lars Trablot of Denmark, and Tassilo Rzymann of Austria and gaining the grand €100,000 prize.
