Most of the participants in the first Riga backgammon tournament have learned how to play backgammon from their parents in an early age; still most of Latvia residents did not have the chance of playing a real life backgammon tournament until recently. Many of the backgammon fans who gathered for the occasion have Armenian origins, where backgammon is a very popular pastime among men and women of all ages, including the tournament champion, Agrafera Kosyan.
Riga 1st backgammon tournament was not the first organized BG event in Kosyan's history; not is it her first victory. She played in several backgammon tournaments of the Armenian community with outsider guests from Estonia and other nearby countries. However, it was the first time that Kosyan, a hostess in a restaurant by day, has played a backgammon event where she was not the only Latvian woman.
First Riga Backgammon Tournament
Riga has finally joined the rest of Europe's capital cities by organizing its first major backgammon tournament.
