New Backgammon Board for Travellers
A new eco-friendly, folding, travelling 3 in 1 game board is offered by Bag Games. The checkers, chess and backgammon board was designed especially for travelers; it is light-weighted, can be packed easily and put in your pocket and yet it remains the original size of a standard board.
Bag Games new product was conceived in the mind of R. Scott Dotson, the company entrepreneur and product developer, in the middle of a Costa Rica surf trip. "The evenings were the perfect downtime to play backgammon", he recalls yearningly, but there was no backgammon board around. Standard backgammon boards were too heavy for their backpacks, while miniature backgammon sets lacked the feel of a genuine, grown-ups backgammon game.
And since backgammon boards weren't up for sale anywhere around the exotic beaches of the Tamarindo Bay, the surfers/backgammon enthusiasts had to come with some substitute: "we found a small sign company to draw up the board per our description and used colones (Costa Rican currency) for the checkers." Going back home to Sarasota, Florida Dotson was determined to imitate the Costa Rican t-shirt shop, which silkscreened any game board pattern onto some cloth and play on it. Thus, the improvised travel backgammon board came to life and gave birth to BagGammon, BagChess and BagCheckers .
